8 Key Steps for Deep Cleaning

Step 1:

Start with a plan. The process will go much more smoothly if you layout your cleaning supplies in an orderly fashion. You want to make sure that you have everything you need before the deep cleaning started, so set aside time for this beforehand (or be ready to run back and forth between rooms).

Step 2:
Remove everything from the room. Go through every item in it and either put it away, discard it or put it in the appropriate place in the room. This will mean a lot of sorting and discarding, but since there's no turning back, you want to make sure that you make the best decisions possible about what you keep and what you toss.

Step 3:
Once the room is clear of all the items, wipe down every surface. Sweep your floor and mop it if necessary. Remember to get in all the cracks and crevices. This will really help with any odours you might have since they'll be trapped by dust. And, while you're at it, dust all the surfaces to get rid of any lingering dirt and grime.

Step 4:
Throw out anything that's broken, old or worn-out (including packaging and tags). If you've already discarded some items in step #2 then you can skip this part. Discard things that aren't used or that have no value. If you're not sure whether or not it's worth keeping, chances are it's not.

Step 5:
Put things away where they belong right after you've cleaned them. This will also help to eliminate clutter and reduce odours since items are being stored properly rather than left out for weeks on end.

Step 6:
Do your research. The more thoroughly you do your research beforehand, the easier it'll be to keep up with all the different components of deep cleaning. This includes research on products that might be appropriate for the job as well as knowing what tools you might need. For example, if you're going to be cleaning tile floors, you'll need a mop and bucket as well as a solution suitable for mopping. If you're going to deep clean your bathroom, make sure you have everything from glass cleaner to toilet bowl cleaner to paper towels.

Step 7:
When you've finished your deep cleaning work, it's time to give everything a final wipe with a clean cloth to remove any fingerprints or smudges before putting things away. Another tip for this step is to put the dirty towels and rags in a hamper outside of the room they were used in. This keeps them away from where you're cleaning and also helps to keep down any odours that might linger if they were just thrown on the floor or in a corner until laundry day.

If there are spots on your carpet after you vacuum, spray them with white vinegar before you run the sweeper over it. You'll be left with a clean carpet, rather than having to hit it over with the vacuum again.

If your carpets are stained or discoloured, place plain white vinegar on them and let it soak for 15 minutes. Afterwards, take out the vacuum cleaner and suck up the vinegar; this should also remove any stains that were left behind by other cleaning products.

Stain removers sometimes contain harsh chemicals that can ruin the look of carpeting over time. Instead, you should try using a solution made from equal parts white vinegar and warm water for cleaning your carpets.

To add a pleasant smell to your carpets, add a few drops of vanilla extract or lavender oil to a spray bottle filled with water and spray it on the carpet.

To remove odours from your carpets, sprinkle some baking soda on them and let them sit for an hour. Then, use a vacuum cleaner to clean out the powder. Afterwards, scrub your carpets with a solution of one cup of white vinegar mixed into one gallon of hot water.

To remove spots on your carpets, use a dull knife or spoon to scrape off excess material. Then place an absorbent cloth or paper towels onto the carpet and pour some club soda onto it. Blot up the moisture with another cloth until you remove as much liquid as possible. Afterwards, brush baking soda into the carpet fibres and leave it for an hour. Afterwards, vacuum up the powder.

Step 8:
To remove dirt from carpets, mix vinegar, lemon juice and salt in equal proportions. Apply this mixture on your carpet with a brush or mop after sprinkling baking soda over it. After 10 minutes, use a vacuum cleaner to suck out all of the mixtures. This will make your carpet shiny and clean.

Step 9 (Bonus):
An old toothbrush or nail brush can be used to scrub off any tough stains. Use a wet rag to wipe away the dirt, grime, and soapy residue once you are finished cleaning with either product. Vinegar is great for removing soap scum from bathtubs and showers because it is a natural degreaser.
