How to clean an oven easily

With your oven, you preparing those excellent meals you love. However, if not maintained properly, it can make your kitchen smell bad and be a source of diseases. To avoid this happening, understanding how to clean an oven easily should come in handy.

Whenever your oven is dirty and needs a good clean, here are some steps you should take to get it clean and shining.

  1. Switch off the oven and wait until the oven is cool.
  2. Remove any of the racks or shelves before you start cleaning. You can do that by sliding them out of the oven.
  3. Empty all your cupboards underneath it so you have easy access to remove spills of food particles. This way you'll not have to be moving around heavy appliances just for the sake of cleaning the oven.
  4. You will need a few items to clean the oven. You can prepare them by mixing ingredients in a bucket before you start to work on getting them perfectly cleaned. Use lukewarm water, baking soda, vinegar and dish soap.
  5. Scrub well with a mixture of baking soda, hot water and dish soap. You can create a paste with these three ingredients to scrub the baked-on food off the oven.
  6. Wash away all residues using vinegar and a warm water mixture. It is an easy solution for cleaning up after you are done scrubbing the oven's surface with baking soda, hot water and dish soap mixture. Rinse the area until you are happy with the result.
  7. Now that your oven surface is smooth, it is time to clean the racks used for placing food inside the oven. To remove burnt-on debris, use a mixture of baking soda and hot water. You can scrub well with this combination to have all bits of food burned on the racks removed.
  8. Lastly, clean the inside of your oven with a mixture of dish soap and vinegar. Pour hot water on top of this solution to rinse off all the food particles that you have just scrubbed off using baking soda.
  9. If there are still tough spots of food debris baked on your oven walls, use a pumice stone to remove them. You can buy a pumice stone at a hardware store. Using the pumice stone is similar to using a sponge since you will have to scrub hard and long in order for this method to work.
  10. Use gloves at all times while cleaning your oven or any of its parts. Also, make sure that you are in a well-ventilated area since vinegar and dish soap can cause irritation if inhaled.

A really dirty oven will definitely need more than just dish soap and water. If you really want to clean it to perfection, here are the things you should do:
  • Fill one half of a bucket with hot water and add two cups of white distilled vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.
  • Put on your gloves and dip a sponge into the mixture. You can just pour this mixture on top of the baking tray if you have one, or directly on the oven walls.
  • Let it stand for about 20 minutes and then wipe away all the grime with a dry cloth. Be sure to get in all the corners so you won't miss any hidden spots where dirt accumulates.
You can also use some paper towels or ordinary dishcloths. Just make sure they are completely soaked in hot water and vinegar mixture before you start wiping away the grime.

What is the quickest way to clean your oven without chemicals?
Use this simple but efficient tip on how to clean an oven with cream of tartar if you want to be seriously fast.

Start by turning your oven off and then preheating it at 200 degrees Celsius. When the temperature is right, turn off the oven and put some aluminium foil on top of the stove so that there are no gaps between it and the oven.

Then fill a pan with water until it is about 2/3 full, add two cups of vinegar and bring to a boil. Put the aluminium pot in your oven and pour hot vinegar mix over the foil that is covering the stove. This method will help you clean an oven very fast by boiling all grease, grime, and food stains away.

After you pour the hot vinegar mixture in the pot, cover with a lid (otherwise it will evaporate) and let your oven sit overnight like this. Once morning comes, take out the aluminium foil that has become covered in baked-on grime, then rinse under water to remove any residue of food and cleaning agents.

Once you are done with that, all that is left to do is wash the inside of your oven with soap and water, then wipe it dry. Once your stove is clean, line the bottom of the oven with aluminium foil before heating it up so that your oven stays clean in future.

  5. After that, turn it off but leave the pot to cool down inside of the oven overnight.
  6. In the morning, you will just have to take out the aluminium foil with a pair of gloves and a face mask and wipe your oven clean with a sponge.
